Cobh to Blackrock 2023
Cove Sailing Club are delighted to launch details of this race. We really hope that with a favourable tide and good weather, we can have a great day afloat and celebrate our fantastic harbour. Once again we are delighted to host this race in conjunction with our chosen charity the RNLI who do such an amazing job keeping us sailors safe.
Our new title sponsors Cork Harbour Boat Hire have come on board this year and provide memorable family trips for thousands of visitors each year in Cork Harbour on board their fleet of self-drive boats and high-speed Ribs.
We will also be announcing further race partners providing excellent prizes for our competitors’ raffle of which all boats entered are eligible,
The Blackrock Race itself has some amazing trophies and we will endeavour to provide close-class bands per fleet as well as the coveted overall prizes.
Competition on the water quickly fades away on arrival to Cork City and friends and families from the harbour clubs switch to social mode with this year having the added bonus of Ireland playing their opening World Cup game against Romania. Tequila Jack’s has promised us a very warm welcome for both the game and prize giving, with a large viewing area for the match provided. A BBQ will be available again this year.
Last year Monkstown Bay Sailing Club kindly offered to help reignite the dinghy racing for this iconic race something missing for a long time. We are delighted that they will again help with the race management for the ever-increasing dinghy fleet in the harbour.
We would encourage as many boats as possible including motor and sail to take part in our RNLI Rally Class, this is a family-friendly sail or motor to the City before the main fleets race up the river. We invite all boats to gather at the Cobh start line and leave on the gun. Full battle dress and music are definitely encouraged. We would be delighted if all RNLI Rally boats supported this event by entering online and supporting the RNLI.
