Cove at Home 2014 – cruisers

Cove SC burgeeCove Sailing Club enjoyed a full-on “At-Home” regatta weekend with the dinghies on Saturday and cruiser racing on Sunday. Fortunately the weather played ball with the rain holding off on Saturday and we had just enough wind to get through the day on Sunday.

With a fleet of 15 boats across classes 1, 2, 3 and whitesail race officers Rob and Aidan set a challenging course which took in the sights of Cobh down to Whitepoint and then out towards the refinery and back for a finish at Cuskinny. The run back from Whitepoint to number 18 proved very tricky with the light wind shifting around all over the place and it was here that the leading boats got away from the rest of the fleet. True Pennance, No Gnomes, Sea Hawk and Jedi all sailed well and led the fleet virtually from start to finish. It was very close after that as about a group of about 7-8 boats little more than drifted towards the finish and then tried to scramble across the line as the breeze picked up with about 50m to go.

After racing it was over to the Quays Bar for the prize-giving and a bit of well-earned rest and refreshment. Thanks go to Aidan and Rob for OD’ing, the Quays Bar for hosting us, and all the boats and crews who came out and supported this years Cove at Home regatta.
