Cove Dinghy Racing – Midweek League round 1

Cove’s all new and shiny midweek dinghy league kicked off on Wednesday evening with 5 Lasers and 2 Fevas making up the fleet for round 1. Conditions were pretty good – we like it dry and with a gusty 10-15 knots there were plenty of good reasons for getting out on the water on a school night. The fleet was taken over to the Oyster Bank once again and this proved a good choice to avoid the ship movements in the main channel.

OD Richard Marshall set a “triangle, sausage, triangle” course and with the first race getting off exactly as scheduled (19.05PM) and with the Juniors making such short work of the course, they had time for a second race. The wind died off a bit but with the experience gained from the first race the Juniors had no problem getting round in very similar times. Also it was noted that all the boats had much better starts second time around with a few boats hitting the line at speed at just the right time all of which is very encouraging.

Over the two races Cian Twomey proved to be the boat to beat with Jack Stoat sailing consistently well to come 2nd in both races. Just behind the leading pair is Jack Delaney, Cormac O’Connor and Audrius who are all very close. In the Fevas there was some very close racing with Danielle Marshall just coming in ahead of Cian Synnott who was a little unlucky in the second race after a great start.

Full results will be posted on the website under the “Racing” tab shortly. The midweek league continues every Wednesday. Just a reminder that the weekend league continues with round 2 this Sunday (FG 11AM). All Welcome.

Please check the dinghy race schedule (see below). All participants are reminded to complete the entry form and hand it in before going out on the water to ensure you get a result.
